The ultimate goal is a single, understandable theory of everything. This theory must explain the properties of matter and energy. But the biggest prize would be to unite all fields of physics and mathematics into one Grand Unified Theory by explaining how gravity, the nuclear forces and electromagnetism all come from the same source.
